IDF Targets Hezbollah in Lebanon with Precision Airstrikes
The Israeli Defense Forces launched a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon and Beirut today. The operation began after rockets fired from Lebanon hit the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona prompting a swift and forceful response. Footage released by the IDF shows strikes on command centers rocket launchers and a drone storage site hidden beneath a Beirut building.
The escalation follows weeks of rising tensions along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. Hezbollah an Iran-backed militia has intensified its attacks on Israeli territory in recent months. The IDF says its mission is to dismantle the group’s military infrastructure and protect civilian lives.
In southern Lebanon the strikes hit multiple targets linked to Hezbollah’s operations near the border. Israeli officials claim the sites were used to store weapons and plan cross-border raids. Residents report heavy bombardment though casualty figures remain unconfirmed as of now.
The Beirut strike targeted a residential structure allegedly housing a Hezbollah drone facility. The IDF insists it took steps to minimize civilian harm but local reports suggest significant damage to surrounding areas. Hezbollah has vowed retaliation calling the attacks an act of aggression against Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Israel’s military brass says the operation is part of a broader strategy to degrade Hezbollah’s capabilities. The group’s arsenal of rockets and drones poses a growing threat to northern communities like Kiryat Shmona. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that further action will follow if provocations continue.
Lebanese authorities have condemned the strikes urging international intervention to halt the violence. The country’s fragile government struggles to assert control over Hezbollah which operates as a state within a state. Civilians caught in the crossfire face mounting risks as the conflict deepens.
The US has reiterated its support for Israel’s right to defend itself while calling for restraint on both sides. President Trump has pushed for a hard line against Iran and its proxies including Hezbollah. Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate have so far failed to yield a ceasefire.
Analysts fear this could spiral into a wider war if Hezbollah unleashes its full firepower. Israel’s air superiority gives it an edge but the militia’s guerrilla tactics remain a challenge. For now the region braces for more violence as the IDF keeps its forces on high alert.
