Bill Maher criticizes media silence on Nigerian Christian killings and terror groups
Full Story
Commentator Bill Maher sharply criticized the media for failing to cover mass killings of Christians in Nigeria. He claimed the lack of attention was due to the fact that Jews were not involved in the violence.
Reports indicate that more than 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria this year alone. Since 2009, an estimated 125,000 Christians and 60,000 liberal Muslims have been killed by Islamic terror groups.

The Context
Nigeria has become a hub for extremist activity in Africa, hosting numerous terror groups with ties to ISIS and other global jihadist organizations. These groups have targeted religious minorities, especially Christians.
An Intersociety report described Nigeria as home to at least 22 Islamic terror groups. The report stated that these groups range from emerging cells to established organizations.
Maher argued that the media ignores such violence because it does not fit preferred narratives. He accused outlets of selective coverage depending on who the victims are.
Some agree, saying the killings have been underreported compared to other global conflicts. They contend that the lack of coverage reflects bias and indifference toward Christian suffering.
Others argue media decisions are based on editorial limits, not deliberate avoidance. They note that global news outlets often prioritize conflicts closer to Western interests.
Regardless of perspective, the violence in Nigeria has drawn concern from human rights organizations. The ongoing attacks highlight the persistent threat posed by radical Islamist groups in Africa.
