Attorney General Pam Bondi Demands Death Penalty for Afghan Suspect in Deadly National Guard Ambush Near White House

Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly vowed to pursue capital punishment against the Afghan national accused of fatally shooting a National Guard member near the executive mansion.

The Thanksgiving Eve attack left 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom dead and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe in critical condition after the suspect allegedly ambushed the pair blocks from the White House.

Bondi made the announcement during a Fox News appearance, stressing aggressive prosecution for what she called a terrorist act.

The suspect, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, reportedly drove cross-country from Washington state before carrying out the shooting on November 26.

Lakanwal entered the United States in 2021 under a special immigrant visa program after collaborating with a CIA-backed counterterrorism unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

That program facilitated the arrival of over 70,000 Afghan evacuees amid the rushed U.S. withdrawal, with critics noting potential gaps in post-arrival monitoring despite initial vetting by intelligence agencies.

Federal authorities have charged Lakanwal with assault with intent to kill and weapons offenses, carrying up to 15 years in prison, while the FBI probes possible radicalization during his time stateside.

The incident has intensified calls for stricter immigration pauses from certain regions, as President Trump links it to prior administration policies on refugee inflows.

It is true that the ambush occurred as described, with one Guard member killed and the suspect’s CIA ties confirmed through official disclosures. Bondi’s push for the death penalty also holds, as she stated prosecutors would seek it following the fatality. However, assertions about maintaining or expanding National Guard deployments to numerous cities, including any specific quote on surges, appear unverified and stem solely from unconfirmed social media claims without backing from administration briefings or major reports.
