Houthis Fire Ballistic Missile Triggering Jerusalem Sirens

Yemen Houthis reportedly launched a ballistic missile toward Israel early Thursday prompting warning sirens across Jerusalem and central regions. The Iran-backed group claimed the attack targeted Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. Israel military intercepted the projectile before it entered its airspace.
Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree announced the missile was a hypersonic Palestine-2 model aimed at disrupting Israel aviation hub. This marks the second such assault this week following U.S. airstrikes on Yemen that killed 31 people. Israel Defense Forces reported no serious injuries from the incident.
The attack comes amid escalating tensions after Israel resumed bombing Gaza shattering a fragile ceasefire. Houthis vowed to expand their targets in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli actions. Sirens woke millions sending them rushing to shelters at 4 a.m. local time in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv areas.
U.S. President Donald Trump condemned Iran for allegedly supporting Houthi aggression threatening dire consequences. Houthis have fired over 40 ballistic missiles at Israel since 2023 in solidarity with Hamas. This latest launch was the first targeting central Israel in two months.
Israel Arrow defense system downed the missile over Saudi Arabia preventing any direct hits. The group has also attacked U.S. warships in the Red Sea with missiles and drones. Regional conflict fears are rising as the Gaza war reignites drawing in multiple Iran-backed factions.
Trump ordered massive strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen last weekend killing dozens. Houthis claim these U.S. actions only fuel their resolve to strike back harder. Jerusalem residents reported hearing loud booms as air defenses engaged the incoming threat high above the city.
Experts warn the Houthis growing missile capabilities pose a real danger to Israel and U.S. interests. The rebels control much of Yemen and have disrupted global shipping lanes since late 2023. Their attacks show no signs of slowing despite heavy U.S. and Israeli counterstrikes.
Israel police searched for debris from the intercepted missile around Jerusalem suburbs. No major damage was reported though flights at Ben Gurion were briefly halted. The Houthis pledged more assaults until Israel halts its renewed Gaza campaign raising stakes in this volatile proxy war.
