Democrats block Minnesota bill reporting violent illegal aliens to ICE.

In the Minnesota House of Representatives, Democratic members voted against a motion to debate a bill that would require county attorneys to report undocumented immigrants arrested for violent crimes to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The legislation did not advance after all 67 Democrats opposed bringing it up for consideration during a recent floor session in the evenly divided chamber.

Minnesota lawmakers have faced repeated partisan splits on immigration policy and the degree of cooperation between local authorities and federal agencies. The bill was designed to mandate notification to ICE in cases involving serious offenses by individuals without legal status.
